A COFFEE Growers Cooperative in Morobe has delivered its first shipment of green beans under the reserve export licence.
The Neknasi Coffee Growers Cooperative Society Limited in Wain-Erap, Nawaeb, exported 320 bags of green bean to Melbourne, Australia.
It was the first export of coffee for the 11 cooperatives granted export reserve licences.
The Neknasi coffee corporative has more than 2000 farmers.
Board chairman Moung Bungun said they had started off with 425 members.
“It started in 2008 as a Coffee Industry Corporation working group cooperative society,” Bungun said.
“It is now as reserve coffee exporter in Papua New Guinea.”
The Cooperative Society Ltd was certified as a fair trade coffee producing organisation by the Fair Trade International in Germany in 2011.
