Common roll update hits second phase in provinces

EAST New Britain and Manus are well into the second phase of the common roll update which is the objection and verification process, in preparation for the upcoming national election.
In West New Britain and New Ireland, the election offices have completed the first phase and are preparing to go into the second phase.
WNB election manager Emily Kelton said by the weekend, officers would be dispatched out to the 12 LLGs for the objection and verification phase to begin.
In ENB, awareness on the electoral roll display and verification was conducted simultaneously in the four districts to ensure all eligible voters have the opportunity to vote.
In Manus, election manager, Sponsa Navi said the first phase has been completed, with the preliminary roll printed in Port Moresby and sent back to the province.
Navi said the 12 assistant returning officers were confirmed and in relation to security, the police commander, Snr Insp David Yapu gave a run down on operations during the election steering committee meeting last week.
For New Ireland, election manager, Alwyn Jimmy said they were now waiting for the preliminary roll to be printed and sent back to the province so they could begin the second phase.
“The 10 assistant returning officers have been confirmed.”
