Conference attendance a big improvement: Official

THE two-day annual joint conference of the Certified Practicing Accountants PNG and CPA Australia (PNG branch) last week was attended by 1180 delegates, an official says.
CPA PNG executive director Yuwak Tau told The National that the attendance was a big improvement compared to previous years.
“There were 1180 participants for this year’s conference the delegates sat through the presentations consistently,” Tau said.
“It has been an improvement from the past.
“This is a record number because we used to have just around 1000 participants.
“The conference has gone on for more than 20 years now.”
Tau said the conference was a platform for accountants and stakeholders to discuss issues relevant to the profession. “This is an avenue where we get all our members together and to keep up to date with changes that are happening in our profession especially changes in the standards, technical announcements, things that are happening with regards to accountancy,” he said.
“We are the body responsible for the standard of our profession. Through this conference, we inform our members and promulgate such information.”
He said stakeholders in the accountancy profession such as the Internal Revenue Commission and other government agencies, banks, academia and companies attended the conference.
CPA’s mission is to promote, develop and maintain high standards in the accountancy profession, to meet the needs of our stakeholders.
