The Papua New Guinea Correctional Services has sent 13 women officers to attend an Asia-Pacific Secretaries Association summit in the Philippines.
The summit focuses on establishing a uniform standard of service practice in the Asia-Pacific region through adoption of a professional code of ethics. The officers are mainly from Bomana Correctional Institution, CS Training College and headquarters.
Among the officers are Hilda Waiyongi, Rita Roffunduo, Eleanor Gebone, Brenda Koesan, Helen Malu, Eillen Elias, Evelyn Suagu, Margareth Belly, Magena Tangura, Hekoi Ovia, Alexandra Maels, and Robbie Dick (male).
They formed part of PNG-based Association of Administrative Professional (PNGAAP), a body that affiliated with the Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals in Asia Pacific.
CS community relations officer Joseph Sila said the officers that went were self-sponsored.
However, they were granted release by the CS administration.
“The officers were not selected but given the opportunity to attend depending on individual finance capabilities,” Sila said.
The officers left on Sept 22.
