Customs, Sandaun sign pact

THE PNG Customs Service and the Sandaun provincial government have agreed to share resources and help each other in carrying out their duties along the border with Indonesia.
This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday between Customs Chief Commissioner Ray Paul and provincial administrator Henry Norm.
Paul said it would help PNG Customs in carrying out its security and enforcement duties on the PNG-Indonesia border.
The two State agenices will share information and resources in conducting operational and joint border patrols to combat illegal trade at the border.
State land identified by the provincial government may be allocated to Customs officers to be stationed at strategic locations along the border to monitor illicit activities and develop the Wutung border post.
Paul and Norm hope to bring State services and development to the province.
