THE Mackay Cutters, who play the PNG Hunters this Sunday at their NFS in Port Moresby, celebrated their 10th anniversary in style with a 38-20 victory over the CQ Capras in round 20 of the Q-Cup on Saturday.
The Cutters produced one of their most dominant displays of the season in front of a bumper crowd at BB Print Stadium, as players past and present witnessed the 18-point triumph over their traditional rivals.
Mackay coach Steve Sheppard, pictured, was happy with his team’s performance post-match amid the Cutters’ 10-year celebrations.
The win leaves the Cutters on the cusp of the Intrust Super Cup’s top six and a potential finals berth, something ‘Pup’ warily acknowledged.
“We’ve got PNG next week … so we’ll go over there and try and ambush them and put them off their game from the get go.
“We’ve got an opportunity to make the finals now, if we keep winning and a bit of luck goes our way, but it’s up to us.”
Skipper Andrew Davey, Braden Uele, Yamba Bowie, Johnny Faletagoa’I, Aaron Booth, Jack Joass and Nathan Saumalu  all bagged tries while Tony Tumusa, Nathan Bassani, Maipele Moseau and Oliver Percy crossed for the visitors.
