Department gears up to host first Apec

THE Department of Transport is ready to host the first Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation ministerial transport meeting in October in Port Moresby, according to Secretary Roy Mumu.
Mumu told The National that all departments had completed the agenda for the meeting which would be attended by 20 economies.
It will be chaired by Transport Minister Wesley Nukundj from October 6 to October 8.
“The main meeting will be on the Saturday at The Stanley Hotel and Suites,” he said.
“Of the 20 economies that we are expecting, eight have confirmed.
“There will be five ministers and three will be represented by heads of states. PNG offered to host this meeting on behalf of Vietnam and we need to start preparing for next year’s meeting.
“This will be the first major Apec event that PNG will host in the lead-up to next year’s Apec.”
