ELIZABETH Omeri is one of the 10 women selected to design clothes for the Miss Pacific Island Pageant contestants.
The pageant will be held on Oct 22 in Port Moresby.
Her brand name, Denani, will be displayed by Miss International Training Institute 2016 Rose Lakore Pitoi during the pageant.
Her brand was named after her late father Tony Denani Goweli Taurega.
Omeri said he had been very much involved in her work and would spend time listening to her ideas on designs and her plans for the future.
Being that close to her father, she said naming her brand after him was a way of keeping him alive in her designs.
“It takes me back to those wonderful times I sat with him and would share my dreams of what I wanted to pursue in life,” she said.
“I wanted to continue to build on that legacy to connect back to those great memories, my people and my culture.”
Omeri’s late father represented the country during the South Pacific Games in Tahiti in 1995.
Omeri hails from a mixed parentage of Milne Bay and Central.
Her father was known in Milne Bay for his soccer skills and a lot of youngsters aspired to be like him. So she wants the legacy of her father to live on through her designs.
She was overwhelmed to be chosen as one of the designers of the pageant and dedicated that too to her late father.
Omeri said the pageant had given her and other designers a platform to showcase their brands – an opportunity never available in the country before.
“I am so grateful to MPIP organisers for believing in me, knowing that I can bring out the best of PNG through my designs together with my fellow sister designers,” she said.
Every designer is unique in presenting their designs. But it’s all the same message – bringing out our diverse cultures and traditions.”
She said her brand leaned more towards traditional contemporary designing.
