A senior public accounts officer is full of praise for South Bougainville district for keeping an impressive financial record in acquitting about K39 milion of public funds.
“For a very remote district like South Bougainville in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville to provide detailed acquittals for 2013-2016 is a big challenge for other electorates throughout the country to take,” assistant secretary for New Guinea Islands region public accounts Johnson Kunda said yesterday during the presentation of district service improvement programme 2013-2016 acquittal reports.
“For finance accountability to be established at that remote and unstable place is an achievement and is a challenge to all other Papua New Guineans,” he said.
“If South Bougainville can produce detailed acquittal reports, I don’t see any reason why other electorates can’t do the same.”
Kunda said the detailed acquittal reports could attract funding from international donor agencies to co-fund social and economic projects in South Bougainville.
