THE Diamonds advanced to the Hebou Shield Women’s T20 final against the Sharks tomorrow after their 53-run win over the Piranhas in Tuesday’s semifinal at Amini Park No.2.
The Diamonds played their best match of the T20 competition to date, posting an impressive 151/1 off.
Kopi John led by example scoring 41 runs at the top of the order, before an unbeaten 70-run second wicket partnership between Joy Buama (42 not out) and Isabella Kari (42 not out) guided the Diamonds to the 15-run total.
The Piranhas had no answer to the Diamonds’ onslaught with only Hina Philip (1-31) taking their only wicket. In reply, the Piranhas could not overcome the disciplined bowling attack of the Diamonds and were eventually bowled out for 98.
Helai Nou was the standout returning with figures of three for five while the experienced, Mairi Tom (3-26) also picked up three wickets while John (1-7) and Henao Thomas (1-21) both picked up a wicket each.
Result: Women’s T20 semifinal – Tues, July 25 – Diamonds 151/1 (Isabella Kari 42 not out, Joy Buama 42 not out, Kopi John 41, HIna Philip 1-31); Piranhas 98 (Kari Seura 29 not out; Helai Nou 3-5, Mairi Tom 3-26). Diamonds won by 53 runs.
