Digicel communication tower cut off due to disruptions

Many of Digicel PNG’s communication towers across the Highlands region were blocked as a result of recent disruptions in Mt Hagen, Wabag, Kundiawa and Mendi.
According to the company’s director of government relations and public affairs, Garry Seddon, the cost to restore communication services is substantial but more alarming and intolerable are the threats to the lives of Digicel engineers and contractors.
Seddon said it was not inconceivable to believe that Digicel’s role during the 2017 election would become even more vital than the previous.
“Unfortunately, Digicel’s network succumbed to increased instances of vandalism and restrictions of access during the election period,” he said.
“Hundreds of thousands of people were denied the basic right to communicate  by the actions of a small discreditable few.”
