Digicel Foundation continues funding of Ginigoada

DIGICEL PNG Foundation is continuing its annual funding of K86,159 to the Ginigoada Business Development Foundation to address gender-based violence for the Life and Business Skills Programme in Lae.
The two parties signed an agreement last Wednesday confirming the annual funding to provide training for advocacy and awareness on gender-based violence and provide financial literacy training for youths in rural and marginalised communities.
Pastor Mike Field, Ginigoada Foundation manager, thanked the foundation for the partnership which has spanned more than five years.
Field said the life and business skills programme in Lae had seen more than 6000 youths, men and women graduate with certificates to help them get jobs.
“It’s encouraging to see change that the people experience through this programme and we’re delighted to continue this journey of empowerment again with the Digicel Foundation,” Field said.
Rex Poka, 33, who attended the training in Labu Miti, said it was a blessing.
“I have tried everything in the village make a living and sustain myself but to no avail,” he said.
“This free training is a blessing and I am privileged to participate in this training.
“I have gained more knowledge on how to do a cash book, budgeting, costing and pricing.
“It helped me a lot on how to write letters of interest when seeking employment.”
Established in October 2008, Digicel PNG Foundation has invested K77 million in rural, remote and socially marginalised communities impacting more than 700,000 people.
