Disability data survey project launched in Goroka

PERSONS living with disabilities in the Highlands can now enjoy their rights following the launching of the disability data survey project in Goroka.
Unggai-Bena MP Benny Allen said there in Eastern Highlands last Wednesday there were different types of disabilities and the survey was identify their special needs.
“They are very special people in our society and we need to love and care for them,” he said.
“These are the people that we as leaders represent in parliament and these are the people that we should also care for.”
A K100,000 funding was presented to the district for the project – K50,000 from the Department of Community Development and Religion and K50,000 from the Unggai-Bena district service improvement programme funds.
Department for Community Development and Religion official Joe Itaki, who represented Minister Delilah Gore, said districts should come up with such important projects which the department would support.
Allen also handed over a vehicle funded by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill through the National Gaming Control Board to the Mt Zion Centre for Blind.
