NATIONAL representative and Lae City Dwellers striker Raymond Gunemba scored two second-half goals in their 4-1 win over PS United last Saturday at the Bisini soccer grounds in Port Moresby.
The City captain helped his side complete their 2017 National Soccer League season unbeaten after 10 matches, and the 31-year-old is the leading goal scorer with 14 goals.
Gunemba praised PS United as a quality side that had given his side a tough challenge every time they had played
“They gave us a very tough challenge but we worked hard to win,” Gunemba said.
“I think if they fix some areas of their game, they will be hard to beat because they’ve got quality players in their side.
“Their attack is good but I think if they put a lot of focus on their defence, they will make it hard for their opponents to score.”
The Morobeans got off to a slow start which saw PS United having good field position but could not find the net.
United midfielder Donovan Murray was busy in the pivot’s role directing traffic but poor execution from his strikers saw them failing to convert their opportunities.
Lae’s Alex Kamen scored the only  goal of the first half in the 21st minute.
Lae coach Peter Gunemba called on his men to lift their intensity and finish off the opposition.
The Morobeans’ attack went up a gear in the second half and saw Obert Bika finding the net.
United rose to the challenge and for a period pushed the visitors hard but they were soon given a reminder of Lae’s superiority when Raymond Gunemba blasted the first of his two goals past the hapless United goalkeeper in the 62nd minute.
Trailing 3-0 the Huawei-sponsored side managed to pull one back when Isaac Karai scored in the 77th minute.
United started to fade trying to keep up with Lae’s pace and  Gunemba put the final nail in the coffin in injury time for a comfortable 4-1 win heading into the finals this weekend.
The other postponed match between Buang and Yamaros was cancelled after both sides decided to forfeit.
