CHAMPION club Lae City Dwellers will make their return to the OFC Champions League in 2018 after they took out the 2017 National Soccer League minor premiership title.
Madang FC, who finished second, will join the Dwellers.
The Morobeans will make this their third appearance in the region’s premier international club competition while it will be Madang’s second shot at the Champions League.
The Peter Gunemba–coached team remain undefeated in the National Soccer League, topping the table with 25 points and claiming one of the two PNGFA berths in the region’s premier club competition.
Captain Raymond Gunemba said their goal was to win the NSL minor premiership title and do well in the OFC Champions League next year.
“We are not really over the moon about the win but we know it is a blessing,” he said.
Coach Gunemba is keeping his focus on progressing and improving from their impressive 2017 campaign.
He said hard work, sacrifice and commitment from the players as well as the club’s executives and families helped the side achieve their objective.
“Not only did we win the title but we maintained our unbeaten run in this competition,” coach Gunemba said.
The 2018 OFC Champions League would see the best club teams from across Oceania go head-to-head to determine the regional champions and OFC representatives at the 2018 FIFA Club World Cup.
