Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato yesterday commended election staff from around the country for their unwavering commitment under very difficult circumstances.
He said this when receiving writs from East New Britain, Central, Milne Bay and Morobe.
“The return of writs to me, as commissioner, is the outcome of a successful election conducted by each and every one of you,” he said.
“Most importantly, behind you, there are hundreds and hundreds of people who are engaged as enrollment agents, temporary election workers, counting officials, polling officials, even security forces.
“I want to take this time to thank all of you.
“Many of them are not here, but please convey my appreciation and thank you to them.
“Without you, we would not have delivered a successful election.”
Gamato said election workers had worked under trying weather conditions and terrain.
“I know you have worked in extreme conditions, like in Milne Bay, where the weather was bad, communication was difficult,” he said.
“I know in Morobe, you have completed your elections. Morobe is not easy.
“The geography, the landmass, everything is difficult, the population is big.”
Gamato said the same also applied to Central and East New Britain.
