Education hailed for publishing positions

THE head teacher of a secondary school in East Sepik has commended and thanked the Education Department for publishing the 2017 education gazette so teachers could apply or confirm their eligibility for positions.
“The last time I filled in the education gazette was in 2007,” Maprik Secondary School principal James Jimbanau told The National yesterday.
He said many of the teachers were teaching on acting positions.
“For 10 years many of the teachers have been teaching on acting positions,” Jimbanau said.
“These teachers need to confirm their eligibility.”
He said for teachers acting at higher positions, it would not be fair to pay them at base level if they resigned, passed on or were involved in accidents.
“Packages vary with positions and it will be fair if teachers positions are confirmed,” Jimbanau said
He said the issue of education gazette should be an annual thing but for some reason that was not the case.
Jimbanau called on the responsible authorities to sort out the problem.
