Education key to unlock change: MP

EDUCATION is the key to unlock change in the PNG society, Minister for Finance and Tari-Pori MP James Marape says.
Speaking to pioneer students who attained certificates at the Hela Hewate Youth Multiskills Training Institute, Marape urged them and the community to value education and become industrious instead of resorting to restlessness, lawlessness and idleness.
The school was initiated a few years ago by hardworking Tari local David Angobe, who shared the vision what power of what education could do in society.
“Hela has been making headlines lately through lawlessness but such goodness on college educational trade certificates issued here in Tari is one shining light initiated by a private citizen and my district is proud to associate with him and to support educate our youths.” Marape said.
He pledged his district’s continual support for the institute in addition to the four classrooms and education subsidy his district had invested on earlier.
The school’s certificate will possibly lead to diploma/degree Tvet (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programmes in the Tari district-funded Pai Polytechnic Institute which is to be opened by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill in early February.
Tari-Pori district has invested more than K20 million from it district service improvement programme 2013, 2014 and 2015 .
The institute will be run by an Australian institute called Earth Science Institute.
