EHP people hailed for peaceful celebrations

EASTERN Highlands people were commended for maintaining peace and harmony during the Goroka Show and independence anniversary celebrations.
Eastern Highlands police commander Supt Alex N’Drasal praised community, church and political leaders for maintaining control of the people.
He said the people demonstrated maturity and participated meaningfully in celebrating the 60th Goroka Show and 41st independence anniversary over weekend.
N’Drasal said leaders in the community, church and business institutions deserved to be commended for a peaceful celebration in the province.
He said there were a few accidents but generally, the province observed the two events peacefully.
N’Drasal also appreciated the efforts of his police officers doing a tremendous job to keep the order.
He said it was good to see people mingle with tourists and other visitors.
“It was critical to maintain peace and this was exactly what was expected and we achieved what was expected,” he said.
The spectacular 2016 Goroka show held over the independence weekend attracted visitors from Papua New Guinea and around the world.
More than 100 tribes participated in the event.
