Election plan in place: Gamato

THE Electoral Commission is currently putting in place a national logistics plan and procurement management process for the 2017 elections with the assistance of the Australian and New Zealand governments.
Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato said, the national logistics plan is going to be the master plan for the procurement and distribution of election materials across the country during the elections.
“It encompasses the polling schedules, transportation costs, election materials and costs including the procurement of big named items and their distribution to the provinces, districts, LLGs and even down to polling stations at ward level
He said the first draft of the national logistics plan was out and discussed at the roll update workshop for election managers and assistant election managers in Mt Hagen last week.
Gamato said when the plan is finalised he would sign it off on Nov 24 for implementation.
“After I sign off the national logistics plan, we (PNGEC) will share information with our development partners and donor agencies to see where they can help in supporting the Government in logistics and distribution for 2017 national election,” he said.
The logistics budget for the 2017 national election is K127 million and Gamato is happy with the progress so far.
