THE electoral roll update exercise has gained momentum in East New Britain, with Kokopo district completed and the exercise extended to Rabaul, Gazelle and Pomio districts.
Provincial returning officer Joab Voivoi said a data-processing centre was set up at the electoral office at Vunapope in Kokopo to process all data coming in from districts.
He said previously, data collected was sent to the PNG Electoral Commission office in Port Moresby to compile the electoral roll.
“This process has now been decentralised to provinces to take ownership and process respective electoral rolls after completing an enrolment update,” Voivoi said.
“The printout will be advertised to the public before a confirmed electoral roll is used in the upcoming elections.”
The enrolment exercise was completed in the Kokopo-Vunamami Urban LLG, Bitapaka LLG, Doy and Raluana LLG in Kokopo.
Raluana has completed roll update and was doing quality checks before data is sent to the processing centre.
Enrolment exercise was extended to Rabaul Urban, Balanataman, Watom and Kombiu in Rabaul district.
