Electricity restored after eight months

ELECTRICITY supply to the National Housing Corporation head office at Tokarara, in Port Moresby, has been restored after eight months.
This followed an agreement between PNG Power Limited and NHC last week.
The corporation is among government and statutory organisations which owe PNG Power K30 million in outstanding electricity bills.
NHC acting managing director Ditha Morris Nayabbanung and executive director operations Kenneth Cooke met with the PNG Power management and agreed to reconnect power to the main grid after it was cut off mid last year due to non-payment of K140,000.
Under the agreement, NHC will pay between K30,000 to K40,000 each month to settle the arrears, apart from its monthly bill of K20,000.
“I want to ensure the corporation’s daily performance is not interrupted again but most importantly, the organisation’s credibility in the community and business must be restored.
One of my priorities is to put the office back to the main power grid,” Nayabbanung said.
“I want to thank PNG Power for their understanding and professionalism to reconnect within three days after our meeting.”
He said NHC had been relying on an old and unreliable generator, which resulted in an inconsistant supply over the past eight months.
Meanwhile, Nayabbanung has taken a new and aggressive approach on a major clean-up operation to settle all outstanding unpaid utilities like water, electricity and communication that had affected the NHC’s operations and functions.
He has reopened post office boxes throughout the country with an outstanding payment of about K30,000 to Post PNG. He is currently planning to hold discussions with Kumul Telikom PNG to restore communication.
