EAST New Britain will host the next PNG Nurses’ Research Symposium next year in Kokopo.
That was announced during the closing ceremony of the 13th symposium at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae last week.
Nurses in Morobe held a handover ceremony by presenting a kundu, a bilum and a clay pot with food to their colleagues from New Guinea Islands.
Chief executive officer for the Nonga Base Hospital Dr Yap said they were planning to host the symposium next year as they had a good working relationship and networking with public-private partners.
“It would be great to provide an avenue for important and timely discussions by nurses across the nation in the symposium,” he said.
He acknowledged that nurses were the backbone of the health workforce because they made up about 80 per cent of workers.
“Church Health Services comprise of 70 per cent of health facilities in the country so we would like promote and recognise their hard work when we host the next symposium,” Yap said.
