Family planning concerns raised

Misconception and lack of confidence to access family planning services is a concern in the country’s rural communities, says Maries Stopes PNG country director Malmee Weerasiri.
She said Maries Stopes travelled to most remote areas to provide family planning services for free and found those challenges.
“We have outreach team and a couple of teams going to very remote areas. As you know in these villages they need to access these services. There are some challenges, one of the challenges is misconception,” Weerasiri told The National.
“There are a lot of misconceptions around it. You can tell people it’s good for them and all that. They are sometimes not confident on the product we have, whether there are side effects, they are not quite confident.”
