A PHILIPPINE national arrested last week with a Malaysian woman for allegedly being in possession of drugs has been deported.
Immigration and Border Security Minister Petrus Thomas yesterday said Jumar Ortiz was arrested with Malaysian Anita Siong on Friday for allegedly being in possession of drugs.
Siong was deported on Monday.
Ortiz was arrested by PNG Immigration with the assistance of police and detained at Bomana Prison.
“Ortiz has also overstayed his visa for three years and was arrested with Siong for being in possession of drugs,” Thomas said.
Ortiz was believed to have been involved in the distribution of the drug methamphetamine, also known as ice, in Port Moresby.
Thomas said the deportation demonstrated how serious the Immigration Department and the law enforcement agencies were in dealing with foreigners who breached PNG laws.
