Five appear in court over beer theft

FIVE men who allegedly broke into the house of a police officer and stole five cartons of beer appeared for mention at the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
They five were Peter Yangapi from New Ireland, Komprino Gwand from East Sepik, Madi Aha from Milne Bay and Oscar Chanei and Charlie Sauto from Manus.
The court was told that on June 29 the five allegedly broke into the house at Macgregor Barracks in 9-Mile, National Capital District, and stole five cartons of beer which were to be used as court exhibits.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar told the five men that there was no instruction from their arresting officer with regards to the progress of the investigation.
Bidar also said matter was still new in court and the five defendants would wait for three months for the court to deal with their matter.
He ordered the matter to return to court on Sept 21.
It was alleged that on June 29 the five men broke into the laundry room of a policeman’s house and stole the cartons of beer worth K600.
