THE PNG Kidney Foundation needs more than K2 million to run its new center as well as bring in more dialysis equipment, chairman Martin Poh says.
He said the foundation will host a dinner in Port Moresby on Friday to raise K2.6 million.
The foundation was officially launched by patron Governor-General Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio in March 2013.
Poh said the charitable organisation was established to help kidney patients who needed dialysis treatment. He also highlighted that the Papua New Guionea Kidney Foundation subsidised costs for patients depending on their income.
“PNGKF was established in 2009 by a group of citizens and residents concerned at the increasing number of Papua New Guineans developing kidney associated medical problems and seeking expensive medical treatment overseas, and also at the increasing number of deaths attributed to kidney diseases,” he said.
“In 2013, we set up first screening at Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) with help from the Health department, we put in two machines.
“Because of not enough space at the PMGH for more machines, we will now have our own center at Kennedy (Erima).
“The center will be completed by March 2017.
“Fundraising (dinner) this Friday is aimed to fund our operations and bring in 10-15 dialysis machines.
“Ninety per cent of the tickets have been sold out; we already raised K2 million from ticket sales.”
