Fr Jan joins education board

The National Higher and Technical Education Board has nominated Fr Jan Czuba of Western Pacific University in Southern Highlands as its chairman in their first meeting yesterday.
Prof Chalapan Kaluwin of the University of Papua New Guinea was nominated deputy chairman.
The board was established and approved by the National Executive Council in 2015 after the commission for higher education and former office of higher education was abolished.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Secretary for Higher Education, Research Science and Technology Prof David Kavanamur said the board would play a significant role in ensuring quality assurance and regulation of the higher and technical education sector.
“After many months of preparatory work through the ministry and Department of Higher Education, Research Science and Technology, we finally have in place the National Higher and Technical Education Board.”
Kavanamur expressed his appreciation to the former commission for higher education for the contribution to higher and technical education sector in PNG.
He said he was confident that the board members were qualified to take up the important responsibility.
Minister for Higher Education Research Science and Technology Francis Marus said the board would provide advice to the department heads on matters concerning quality assurance.
