Gaire league gets Cheung support

RECEIVING help from sponsors is something many sports competitions look forward and the Gaire Rugby Football League president Lohia Hera was over the moon when accepting more than K3000 worth of trophies from P&B Cheung last Friday in Port Moresby.
Hera said Gaire people loved their rugby league and such donations would boost their involvement in the sport. The nine-club competition has an Under-20s and senior division and involves 300 players.
Matches are played on Saturdays at Gaire village.
Hera said it was the first time for the league to have all their trophies provided by one sponsor.
The trophies were donated in the name of Peter and Betty Cheung, owners of P&B Cheung, wholesalers located at Badili, Port Moresby.
When making the commitment to support the competition last Thursday, managing director Kathy Johnston said she was happy to support the Gaire community, a community that had always been loyal customers of the store since the days of her parents, Peter and Betty.
