Good communication machinery vital

THE United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is encouraging the government to have a good communication machinery.
UNDP resident representative Roy Trivedy says effective governments in the world are those that communicate well with their people.
“The government should constantly be talking to people about what they are trying to do and also listen to people about what people want from the government. We need that kind of government communication machinery in PNG,” Trivedy said.
He said PNG would be hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meeting in 2018 but questions needed to be asked whether the people know anything about the meeting.
“How many people can tell you, what are our objectives with Apec other than hosting lots of meetings and having many visitors? Do we know what the message from citizens to the Government is, about what we should do for the Apec?”
