FIFA’s legacy programme, ‘Live Your Goals’, will be rolled out in Goroka on Sunday at the National Sports Institute, the home of the Papua New Guinea Under-20 Women’s team.
The event is being spearheaded by the PNG Football Association and the local organising committee legacy staff.
The Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup mascot Susa will be part of the programme.
The ‘Live Your Goals’ campaign targets young girls from ages 6-24.
The programme is aimed at promoting and empowering as many young girls as possible and to encourage more women and girls to participate in football.
Children, especially girls from primary schools in Goroka, will be participating in the programme, where they will take part in two hours of football skills lessons conducted by coaches from PNGFA ans the Fifa LOC.
PNG Football Association president David Chung said the programme was successfully rolled out in Lae and now it was going to Goroka, where the PNG U20s were based.
“With the involvement of the national U20 women’s team, I’m hopeful it will inspire our young girls and women in Goroka to be part of the world’s most popular sport and show that they can achieve their goals through football,” Chung said.
“Susa, the U20 Women’s World Cup mascot, will be there to promote the tournament among the people of Goroka.
“We hope that through the hosting of the Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup, women can be inspired and empowered to tackle gender prejudice and discrimination in a country like Papua New Guinea.”
Kimbe will be the next stop for the roll-out and this would take place at the end of the month.
The Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup PNG 2016 will be held from the Nov 13 to Dec 3.
