MORESBY North-West MP and former prime minister Sir Mekere Morauta says the government formed yesterday is not the popular government that Papua New Guineans wanted.
In a media conference hosted by the Alliance Team after the election of Peter O’Neill as   Prime Minster, Sir Mekere said People’s National Congress (PNC) had done sufficient damage and was capable of destroying the country.
“Today’s (yesterday’s) failure and loss by the Alliance Team to form the government is a loss for the people of PNG,” he said.
“This government formed is not a popular government that Papua New Guineans have been praying and crying for.
“We hear Papua New Guineans expressing their dissatisfaction through the social media and other forms of media.”
He said the 46 MPs now on the Opposition side have a big challenge to fight for the good of the country.
“Just see how this election was manipulated by PNC at every step and face,” Sir Mekere said.
“Now we (the Opposition) have a big challenge before us about what will we do to correct these mistakes, making sure these mistakes are not repeated and to restore confidence in the system for the people of PNG.
“What we the Opposition will now do is restore the system that gives Papua New Guineans their constitutional rights, have Papua New Guineans  elect their leader.”
Sir Mekere said the elections represented chaos at every stage and face which was mishandled and managed to give advantage to the PNC party.
