WESTERN Highlands Governor Paias Wingti is happy that the province has visionary young leaders to drive development and deliver services to the people.
Speaking at the swearing-in of assembly members last Friday, Wingti said that he felt more energetic when the provincial assembly was made up of young people.
He said that young men like deputy governor Michael Mai and Member for Tambul-Nebilyer Win Dakri Daki gave him strength and energy.
Wingti said that it was a rare for former deputy and Baiyer LLG president Paraka Nii to stand down and appointed Mai as his successor.
The council president of Mt Giluwe LLG was elected unopposed as deputy governor and sworn-in together with the two appointed members, Nathan Wantape and Christopher Philip.
Wantape is also the chairman of the finance committee and Philip is in charge of youth, women and sports.
Mai is the chairman for the education committee.
The other members of the provincial assembly and their portfolios are Patrick Paul Lepa, (works, law and order) and Tony Wek (health).
Dakri Daki and Mul-Baiyer MP Koi Trappe were also sworn-in on Friday while Hagen MP William Duma and Dei’s Wesley Nukundi did not attend the ceremony.
Wingti thanked his former deputy for being a role model and voluntarily handing over his leadership to a young man.
“You will hardly find someone giving away his leadership to another person but Nii did it because he believes in young leaders to move the province to next level,” he said.
