Governor Muthuvel welcomes Hunters

THE PNG Hunters are in Kimbe for a week-long camp in preparation for their Q-Cup major semifinal against the Redcliffe Dolphins on Sunday.
The team were given a warm welcome when they arrived at the Hoskins Airport last Friday.
Governor Sasindran Muthuvel, pictured, in welcoming coach Michael Marum and his men, thanked them for choosing Kimbe to hold their camp.
He also congratulated Hunters for being the minor premiers and said they had made the country proud.
Muthuvel said their coming to Kimbe was a boost for the code in the province as well as the New Guinea Islands region.
He said the provincial government was considering reviving the Kimbe Bulls franchise in the Digicel Cup because of the amount of untapped talent in West New Britain.
The Hunters squad arrived at the Kimbe Rugby Field just as the NGI Confederate trials were ending and stole the show when excited onlookers rushed to see the players.
Kimbe league president Elvis Mathies welcomed the Hunters and made the field available for their training.
The WNB provincial government has allocated the team two vehicles for use during their stay in Kimbe.
Meanwhile, the NGI Under-20 and men’s were selected following the trials over the weekend.
The U20s features eight West New Britain players, with East New Britain (6), New Ireland (2) and Bougainville (2).
The coach is Absolom Salangat (WNB), trainer Joe Mike (ENB) and Ezekiel Kisiu (New Ireland) is the manager.
The men’s squad has nine ENB players, five from WNB, three from New Ireland and one from Bougainville.
The coach is Solomon Darius (ENB), trainer Derrick Maraga (Bougainville) and Tulian Ivat (ENB) is the manager.
