Govt to give more power to ABG

THE National Government will transfer more of its powers to the Autonomous Region of Bougainville Government as agreed to under the Bougainville Peace Agreement.
Minister for Public Service Sir Puka Temu and Department of Personnel Management Secretary John Kali will lead a delegation of heads of national agencies to Bougainville to execute a memorandum of understanding for the drawing down of the powers.
It includes human resource management, education, labour and employment, agriculture and livestock, communication and information, community development, arts and culture, health, tourism and environment and conservation.
Kali said most important was developing the capacity of the Bougainville public service.
He said the institutions and the public servants must effectively assume and use the powers for the good of the people on the island.
Sir Puka and Kali have appealed to agency heads to cooperate in implementing the agreement with Bougainville.
“The effective and proper implementation of the MOU will empower the Bouganville public service to help in the full attainment of autonomy in readiness for the referendum,” Kali said.
