Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra says the grade 12 written expression examination will go ahead as scheduled on  August 7.
He is calling on the newly elected leaders and authorities in the provinces to support the students by ensuring that the examination is conducted as scheduled.
Kombra made this call because he was concerned the there were still some schools being affected by election-related activities and issues resulting in many teachers and students not turning up for classes.
“I have already issued instructions for all teachers and students to commence Term 3 on Monday, July 10 and July 17 for those schools which were used as counting venues.
“However, I am being informed that many teachers and students are still not turning up for classes.”
Kombra said he was concerned with the election-related violence and disturbances in Western Highlands and Enga.
He called on the newly elected leaders and authorities there to ensure that students were not affected in any way.
“The future of our children is very critical at this time. This examination is very important in determining their future, therefore, we all must ensure that they sit the examination on the date set. This is an annual activity on our calendar and we will not postpone it,” Kombra said.
He said that the department was aware of the current situation and the risks involved in the transportation of the examination materials and has strategised to ensure that all schools receive the materials in time to conduct the examination.
He appealed to the newly elected leaders and authorities
in the provinces to assist the department and ensure students and teachers return to classes without fear.
