PEOPLE travelling to and from Gulf have been stranded after a group of people set up a roadblock in Port Moresby demanding compensation for damage to a vehicle belonging to one of them.
Gulf Police Commander Chief Inspector Sailas Wayagure said the vehicle was damaged between Wamae and Karama villages in Gulf on Saturday afternoon.
“Some youths allegedly under the influence of liquor smashed the windscreen because the PMV failed to pick up a passenger,” he said.
“The people from Hela have now blocked the road at Erima in Port Moresby, preventing PMVs from travelling to and from Gulf.
“They are demanding compensation before they remove the road block.”
Wayagure said he would travel to Erima to negotiate with the group of Hela people to remove the road block.
In another incident, a man from Baimuru was killed while he was heading to his house in Kerema town at about 8pm on Saturday.
“The victim was attacked and killed while with his wife and children. The victim and his wife were first attacked near the market by the suspect who was under the influence of liquor,” he said.
Members of the public chased him away. He returned and waited for the couple to go home.
