A MANUAL aimed at improving school board governance and leadership capacities was launched at the Redscar High School in Central yesterday.
The board of management training manual was developed by four PNG LNG plant site communities in Central through a partnership support by ExxonMobil, the Central government and Esmie Sinapa Development Consultants and Services (ESDCS).
The ESDCS, with support from ExxonMobil, conducted a series of capacity-building workshops with board members of schools at the plant site – Porebada, Boera, Papa and Lealea.
The manual complements the Education Department’s board of management handbook and concentrates on upskilling leadership and governance qualities of board members.
“The manual is not about the roles and responsibilities which are already circulated under the Education Department’s handbook on school boards; it is about attitude and best practices behaviour of what these leaders need to be able to make sure their schools become effective areas of learning,” Esmie Sinapa of ESDCS said.
“The Education Department, who are part of the critiquing process, will see how it is standing out and if it works for Central, maybe they can roll it out in PNG.” Sinapa said.
She said the manual was a community one which was created to be used as vehicle for development and progress in their community
She said a similar approach would be done in  other schools.
