GOVERNOR-General Bob Dadae says there are many lessons to be learned from the life of the late Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc.
He said he had learned from Sir Manasupe the importance of interacting with rural people, commitment to work and his wholehearted determination to achieve results.
“His commitment to his work may have cut short his life,” Dadae said of the former Chief Secretary.
“He was a living sacrifice for all of us.”
Dadae spoke at the funeral service of Sir Manasupe at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lae on Saturday.
Dadae thanked Sir Manasupe’s widow Lady Josephine and her children for giving him to Morobe and Papua New Guinea.
“What you have shown should be a lesson for all of us,” he said.
Dadae said he was at the University of PNG with Sir Manasupe in the 1980s.
He said Sir Manasupe called him “bishop” at UPNG but he had never bothered to ask him what he meant.
“I was not a seminary student, I was not an evangelical pastor but he called me bishop,” Dadae recalled.
“As I stand before you, I can see that that was a prophecy.
“What he said became a blessing for me in life.
“I want to thank God for the Government through Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, the Queen of the Commonwealth for the recognition bestowed upon me to become governor-general.”
Sir Manasupe died last week after suffering from Parkinson’s Disease.
