Hawks scoop victory in golden-point showdown

IT all went down to the wire as Hawks inside Chris Vani evaded Paga defenders and put the icing on the cake in an extra-time golden point for an 18-14 win in the Port Moresby Rugby League elimination final at National Football Stadium last Saturday.
After regulation time and 10 minutes of extra time the scores were locked 14-14.
The Hawks were lucky Vani dummied and darted to the line for the crucial try.
Paga had a golden opportunity in the crucial stages of the second half while in opposition territory but instead of a field goal they opted to score a try but time beat them.
This option caused the extra time.
Paga were leading early in the game with a try to prop Kerry Pep and five-eighth Billy Opa adding the extras.
Hawks replied through captain Toua Tom to trail 6 – 4 at the interval.
Paga led 14 – 8 for the most of the match but that was equalised when Hawks centre Toua Tom wrongfooted the defence to score
under the uprights to level the score 14-14.
