Hela election workers worked without pay

Hela election manager John Tipa yesterday told of how workers completed polling and counting without allowances, all because of their commitment to the province.
He said this when presenting the writ for the Hela regional seat won by Philip Undialu to Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato.
Hela completed its election before a lot of provinces despite fears of violence.
Tipa said he had already told the electoral commission headquarters that Hela workers had worked without allowances paid to them.
“My officials have worked without allowances,” he told The National.
“They should have put pressure on me for allowances before they went to work, but we have had no governor in place for three to four years and everyone felt that they had to have a governor and elected leaders in place
“That’s why they worked without allowances.
“It’s now up to the authorities here (electoral commission headquarters) to pay up my officials.”
The four Hela MPs stand united for the good of the province, governor-elect Philip Undialu said.
The other three are Tari-Pori MP-elect James Marape, Koroba-Lake Kopiago MP-elect Petrus Thomas and Komo-Margarima MP-elect Manasseh Makiba.
“Hela has never established a formidable and united team like this,” Undialu said.
