Helping female students achieve goals in ICT

A recipient of the National Information and Communication Technology Authority (Nicta) Girls in ICT scholarship is encouraging female students in high and secondary schools to undertake ICT courses.
Third year electrical and communications Engineering student at University of Technology in Lae, Amy Rombuk, 20, said: “ICT is a good field if you went to tertiary institutions for studies.
“PNG is now developing with a lot of technologies coming up and there will be a lot of job opportunities.”
She is one of four girls from Unitech studying under the Nicta scholarship.
The scholarship covers tuition for four years, book allowances and travel costs.
Rombuk thanked Nicta for the scholarship and said it was a challenge for them to always be the best in her class of 60. “This is my second year in the scholarship and it’s been really good so far with all the assistance.”
The part Western Highlands and Jiwaka girl wants to do her industrial training and work with ICT companies to help develop the country in information technology, after graduation.
She also encouraged students currently studying ICT-related courses to persevere and do well in their studies.
