HOHOLA Demonstration are the inaugural winners of the Special Olympics five-a-side unified football competition after defeating Cheshire Homes 1-0 in a penalty shoot-out.
It was a goalless in regulation time and senior referee and coordinator Willie Vaira called for the penalty shoot-out.
The first five kickers from the teams could not find the net until the eight kicker for Hohola Dem scored to win the match for his side.
The match was thriller. The match remained scoreless until fulltime due to good goalkeeping, which forced the match into a penalty shoot-out.
In the third and fourth play-off, Red Cross edged out Gabagaba 3-2.
The match was intense, with the lead exchanging sides before Red Cross scored the tie-breaker.
Vaira thanked Lady Lynda Babao, who is the patron of the Special Olympics PNG, Community Development secretary Anna Solomon and sports and development director (PNG Sports Foundation) Peter Chalapan for witnessing the final.
Special Olympics PNG president Takale Tuna said the finals coincided with the Global Hand Washing Day.
