Hoskins AFL into semifinals

THE Lolovulai AFL competition in Hoskins, West New Britain enters its preliminary finals matches tomorrow, with St Francis taking on Raki Crows in the A grade match.
The winner of the preliminary final will advance into the premiership decider against Patuki of Galilo next Saturday.
In the B grade preliminary final, St Francis will take on Karapi, with the winner to meet Isu Gule in next week’s grand final.
Executive member and former national representative Malcolm Bai said Lolovulai was the only association running an AFL competition in West New Britain.
“Kimbe does not have a provincial competition but we were fortunate enough to put together a competition in Hoskins, with the support of the Hamamas Trading,” Bai said.
He said the competition had been running for two years, with eight teams on the trot and it was most likely to get “bigger and better” with additional funding support from the Higher Education Minister and Talasea MP, Francis Marus.
Bai said Lolovula AFL planned to affiliate to AFLPNG to run junior development and pathway programmes in schools in Hoskins, starting next year.
