Hospitals get K30,000 for medicine

Papua

NORTH Fly MP James Donald has allocated K30,000 for medicines for the Kiunga District Hospital and the Rumginae Community Health Workers training hospital in Western.
He said the funding was in response to the shortage of medical drugs faced by the two hospitals and other health centres in the district.
Donald said the current supplier of medical drug Lanka Pharmaceutical Limited had been engaged to supply drugs from Port Moresby to Kiunga.
He said a private medical supplier had been engaged because the Government’s area medical supplier had run out of stock.
“I have no choice but to engage a private firm (Lanka Pharmaceutical) to quickly deliver medical drugs which are urgently needed by hospitals in the district,” Donald said.
The K30,000 came from the non-discretional funds component of the District Services Grants which the District Development Authority board approved in Kiunga last month.
