ICCC boss signs employment contract

COMMISSIONER and chief executive officer of the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) Paulus Ain signed his employment contract at the Government House yesterday.
The five-year contract was signed more than a year after he took up the post in August last year.
Acting Governor-General Theodore Zurenuoc executed the signing ceremony on behalf of the State.
“I am thankful to the ICCC appointments committee and the Government of Papua New Guinea for having confidence and faith in me to head the country’s only economic regulator, the ICCC,” Ain said.
The ICCC appointments committee comprises the Prime Minister, Treasury Minister, Opposition Leader and the Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea.
“As I had stated when taking over office last year, I want to bring back the credibility of the ICCC and trust and confidence of the regulated entities. Above all, I want to ensure that there is vibrant competition in our economy and the interests of our consumers are protected,” Ain said.
Ain has worked for the commission for 13 years, starting with the former Price Control Unit of the Department of Treasury which was abolished in 2002, making way for ICCC. Ain had stints with Telikom PNG before his appointment by the ICCC appointments committee last year, replacing Dr Billy Manoka whose tenure was not renewed.
Present to witness the signing was ICCC acting general manager Avi Hubert and Ain’s family.
