Imbonggu district to get two new high schools

Education

WORK has started on establishing two new high schools to help cater for increasing student output from primary schools in the Imbonggu district of Southern Highlands.
The new high schools are Undiri in the Lower Mendi area and Kero in Ialibu Basin.
The push for additional schools is in line with Imbonggu MP Francis Awesa’s emphasis on creating more learning and educational opportunities for primary school students.
In its 2016 Budget, the Imbonggu District Development Authority allocated K560,000 to set up the new Kero High School.
The money is to be used to build a new double classroom there and similar funding would be allocated each year to fully establish the High School.
Another K500,000 was allocated for Undiri High School.
Survey work has been carried out on the 58.99 hectares of land on which the new school is to be built establishing the actual school boundary, identifying the contours (high and low spots) and the two kilometre access road from Mendi-Kagua-Tari Highway to the proposed school site.
A surveyor from PW Surveyors Limited in Mendi, Alex Wami who surveyed the area said the second phase has started to design a draft map of the whole area with all necessary information before submitting the draft to regional Lands and Physical Planning office in Goroka, Eastern Highlands.
Wami said the draft would be verified by the Goroka office then sent to Lands and Physical Planning headquarters in Port Moresby for registration, allocation of portion number and for issuing land title.
There are currently four high schools in Imbonggu district.
