NEW MPs will go through a one-week induction this month to educate themselves of their codes of conduct and the processes and procedures of parliament.
Acting Clerk to Parliament Kala Aufa told The National yesterday that the programme was to make the new MPs aware of how to behave in Parliament.
It will run from Aug 14 to 18 in the State Function Room at Parliament House.
“We will have the Ombudsman Commission, government agencies and State-owned enterprises involved,” Aufa said.
“This induction is going to be different because the private sector is going to be involved.”
Business houses will set up booths around Parliament House.
“Once the presentation has been done in the State Function Room, we will have the MPs move around and speak to business houses and buy their products,” he said.
“We will have business houses like Digicel, Telikom and others who are going to sell their products.”
The new MPs will also be shown where to go to get their pay and to access other services.
“It is a big programme and our librarians in Parliament are in charge of the induction programme,” Aufa said.
