Infantino to witness final

FIFA president Gianni Infantino, pictured, will make his first official visit to Papua New Guinea when he comes for the Fifa Under-20 Women World Cup final next month.
PNG Football Association president David Chung confirmed this week that Infantino will arrive on Dec 2, and watch the final on Dec 3 and then leave on December 4. Chung said the Fifa U20 Women World Cup Local Organisaing Committee and the Fifa protocol were taking care of the Infantino’s visit to Papua New Guinea.
Infantino will be the second Fifa president to visit the country apart from former president Sepp Blatter. The Swiss-Italian is no starnger to PNG having visited Port Moresby last November as a candidate for the Fifa presidency.
Infantino addressed the OFC executive committee during his Nov 27 visit last year.
Infantino presented his 11 principles to bring Fifa forward which outlined his plans for advancing football’s international governing body.  The 46-year-old will stop over in Port Moresby for the U20 World Cup final as part of a busy schedule that includes a visit to Australia in the second week of December before  before heading to a football summit in Singapore – alongside FFA officials.
Infantino was a member of Fifa’s Reform Committee. On Oct 26  2015, he received the backing of the UEFA executive committee to stand for president in the 2016 Fifa extraordinary congress.
On the same day, he confirmed his candidacy and submitted the required declarations of support.
He promised to expand the Fifa World Cup to 40 teams.
He was elected president on Feb 26 and is the first Italian to hold the post.
