Institute opens K8m projects

THE Government has spent about K300 million on the development of infrastructure in tertiary institutions, Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Minister Francis Marus says.
He was speaking during the opening of rehabilitation projects costing almost K8 million at the PNG Education Institute.
Dr Eliakam Apelis, the chairman of the PNGEI governing council and deputy secretary of the schools and education standards directorate, said the project which began in 2014, had given the institute a facelift.
The projects include:

  • A K3.5 million road sealing and drainage project;
  • K980,000 double-storey digital/electronic library;
  • K992,000 men’s dormitory;
  • K960,000 three staff houses; and,
  • Full maintenance of 10 staff houses and a men’s dormitory.

He commended the department for managing the project.
“This is a huge facelift to the institution (started in 1963) since the direct funding of the Government came into being.”
